Post 3: For every season

“Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

I enjoying strolling in the garden and parks and love to stop and smell ( and photograph) the proverbial roses . Our warm summers have meant, most of the flowering shrubs and trees are done flowering (except for some perennials). Now it is on to the next stage. If I look out of my window , most of the trees in my vicinity are beginning to spell “FALL”. Although I love to see the fall colors, I also sadly understand what will follow it ….the big chill of long Canadian winters. As of now I trying to enjoy the rest of the summer and upcoming fall.

Seasonality is just another reminder that some things in life are temporary in nature. We have to look beyond today and think of the future. Preparation for the future is inherent in nature. The friendly squirrels in the backyard have been feverishly collecting food for the winter, and the maples and the ashes have begun shedding their beautiful samaras(seed pods)

My friend L collects dried rose hips and makes lovely rose hip tea with them. It tastes refreshing! Image via.

In my life too, I am going through a new season. Motherhood has its challenges and rewards. I have been blessed to take a sabbatical from work and stay at home to take care of my daughter but as my daughter grows up and becomes more and more independent, I often try to strike a balance between freedom and control, and between my role as her mother and an individual. The valuable lesson I have learnt from nature, is to not worry about the tomorrow too much. A maple might disperse thousands of seeds but can never know how many of them got planted! The good book also tells us to not worry about our tomorrows too much, for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.( Matthew 6:34). Our plans for tomorrow or the next moment or day have to open-ended with lot of flexibility built in. For the moment, I am living in the season.

What season of life are you going through?

A googly!

LIfe and nature do throw us a goggly once in a while! I was gladly welcoming spring but suddenly yesterday night we got some flurries and I woke up to this sight today morning!

We have been getting snow flurries since morning and its a Gray and cold day. Despite the sudden setback in the weather, the leaves will continue to bud. They are still dormant enough to be not exceedingly damaged by sudden drop in temperatures. We know from experience that spring will continue on and then there will summer. This cold spell is not here to stay.

The scriptures record king David’s words, ” when my heart is overwhelmed Lead me to a rock that is higher than I”. When life throws me a googly, I can rest assured in the fact that a higher power is in control.

What are the things that give you strength to face the downturns of life?
