No woman no cry!!

I am a little late in posting  this but lately I have been busy running after my daughter who is  just learning to walk that I have been late on many things.

Greetings to all the ladies out there on International Women’s Day!!

It maybe easy to ignore the plight of women in the third world while living in the comforts of my home in Canada.

I understand there  is a lot of injustice against women in all parts of the world but here in the western world there are social agencies in places which can help some if not all of the women in distress. In developing nations such help is hard to come by. Many NGO’s and missions are working hard to improve the lives of women in countries in South Asia like India , Pakistan and Bangladesh. The conditions are tough but they continue their good work and my hat’s off to them.

In the vein of getting late, I didn’t notice until yesterday that one documentary had made it to the Oscar Honor roll. It is a short documentary which follows women in Pakistan who are victims of Acid violence. This documentary is co-directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and is called Saving Face [HBO]. It seems fitting that a woman would raise such a sensitive issue and she’d be appreciated for it.

Women can be extremely vulnerable in places like these and often become easy targets for violence and abuse and it is an extremely sad situation.

What could women like us do to improve the situation? We the fortunate ones , who got a good life, good education and good health. We have financial freedom and opportunities. Even if we can’t help them physically, we can give our support. we can live our lives as an example to try and honor other women by our hard work, dignity and sincerity.

these words from the scriptures come to mind-  ” Instead, it(your beauty) should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth………You are her (Sarah’s) daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.”

I truly do appreciate all the women in my life, my mother , mother-in-law, aunts, mentors and friends who have loved me and inspired me.
